Sam Roberts
Writer, storyteller, and activist at the crossroads of digital media and organizing.
After almost a decade in the world of scripted television—working on shows like Prison Break, Party Down, and the forthcoming Netflix series Maniac, as well as my own projects like the award-winning online series, Red Scare—I've left television behind and moved back to my hometown of New York City. Brooklyn may not be as sunny as LA, but the public transportation and pizza are better.
I believe great communication brings people together...
Great communication is about forging a genuine connection with your audience, as much through listening with generosity of spirit as clearly expressing yourself. Great communication pinpoints the universalities that bind us while empowering us to share our individual experiences, interests, and skills.
...and a well-told story can change the world.
We live our lives immersed in narratives: Some we're aware of (like film, tv, books) and many we often don't realize as storytelling (advertising, news reporting, political messaging). Stories are how we process and understand the world.
To win someone over to your cause or brand, a story that resonates will always serve you better than facts or flashy graphics. Facts may be true, but stories feel true, and that makes all the difference.
When I'm not working, I can be found...
- Reading science-fiction and fantasy novels (but only the good ones),
- Playing tabletop games,
- Serving as sous-chef for my wife, Rachel,
- Walking my dog, Maynard.
